Whether the mould source is caused by a lack of adequate ventilation, flood water damage or a leaking roof, mould growth is a serious problem. As well as looking and smelling unpleasant, prolonged exposure to mould can have a huge impact on your health and may cause damage to the building’s structure. Correct mould remediation is essential to minimising these risks and the risk of mould growrth returning.
Building materials affected by moisture ingress often contribute to elevated relative humidity throughout the building envelope, even if the affected materials are isolated to a particular area or room of the building. Aspergillus/Penicillium is a genus of moulds that are commonly found in damp moist environments, and with some species being xerophilic, can successfully colonise high humidity environments, taking advantage of water molecules in the air and the nutrients from organic matter found in common dust.
Because of its ability to take advantage of sparse resources, and the fact that it produces massive amounts of very small spores, once established within an indoor environment, Aspergillus/Penicillium can be quite problematic to successfully remediate/remove without adopting meticulous cleaning techniques in line with mould remediation guidelines.

Ready to get started? Let’s talk!
Mould remediation involves more than simply cleaning off the visible mould growth and applying a disinfectant. We adhere to the ANSI/IICRC s520 Standard for Professional Mould Remediation, which states that “Antimicrobials should not be used as an alternative to cleaning procedures and physical removal of mould contamination.”
To ensure the best results, we aim to physically remove mould from the property, ensuring that the source of contamination has been eliminated. By using air filtration devices, we’re able to capture airborne spores and particulate matter that would otherwise settle on other surfaces in the building.
With appropriate containment and negative air in place, step 1 is typically removal of condition 3 mould via aggressive cleaning and/or removal works. From here, all fittings, fixtures and building materials are typically H.E.PA. vacuumed, wet wiped and H.E.PA. vacuumed again. After mould removal is complete, structural drying may also be completed to remove excess moisture from within the building. Finally it is best practice that a 3rd party hygienist attends to take air and surface samples. This provides confirmation that the remediation is complete with the premises returned to a normal fungal ecology, safe for reoccupation.

Excess moisture is the main cause of indoor mould growth. This could be from an underlying problem with the building structure, such as inadequate heating and ventilation, excess condensation, burst pipes, flooding or a leaking roof. If you have experienced water damage from rain, flooding, or a fire, any moisture remaining in the fabric of your home can lead to mould growth.
Good cleaning practices throughout your property can help slow down mould growth or stop mould growth before it occurs on some occasions. When it comes to the actual section of mould growth, even if you tackle the problem with specifically formulated mould killer, it is unlikely that you will be able to eradicate the mould on the surface and can instead agitate millions of spores into the air causing the mould to spread further. The correct processes are very important to remove the conditions that allowed mould growth, to correctly contain and remove the active mould, and correctly clean the surrounding surfaces and air for mould whether you can see it or not. By using the right tools, equipment and containment, Cleopatra’s mould remediation experts can restore your premises to a normal fungal ecology.
Cleopatra Cleaning and Restoration is an IICRC certified firm with Applied Microbial Remediation Technician (AMRT) qualifications. This gives you the peace of mind that our technicians have the knowledge to carry out mould remediation services safely, efficiently and correctly.
